Torin Borrowdale is an Emmy-nominated film, television, and game composer who collaborates with filmmakers and showrunners to craft memorable and emotive scores. He most recently earned an Emmy nomination for his work on Disney+’s DESCENDANTS: THE RISE OF RED, where his dynamic and expansive score brought a bold musical identity to the next chapter of the globally popular franchise. Borrowdale is currently scoring the highly anticipated next installment of DESCENDANTS.
Borrowdale scored Apple TV+’s FIVE DAYS AT MEMORIAL, based on the harrowing true story of a hospital in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Working with Emmy-winning showrunner Carlton Cuse and Academy Award-winning filmmaker John Ridley, Borrowdale wrote an intimate and moving score to amplify the “agonizing, brutally vivid retelling (Entertainment Weekly)” of the tragic natural disaster.
Borrowdale wrote the original theme and score for Netflix’s LOCKE & KEY, produced by Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill. The show, based on the beloved comic book series by Joe Hill, successfully ran for three seasons. Borrowdale’s expressive orchestral score for the series was recorded at London’s AIR Studios and in Budapest.
Borrowdale’s recent film credits include Lionsgate and Hulu’s RUN — his third collaboration with director Aneesh Chaganty — starring Emmy-winning actress Sarah Paulson. RUN opened as Hulu’s highest-watched film at the time and is Certified Fresh by critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics praised Borrowdale’s score, which impressively resembled the “booming scores of Bernard Herrmann (Screen Daily).”
His original film collaboration with Chaganty was SEARCHING, starring John Cho and Debra Messing. The film premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and was picked up by Sony Pictures for worldwide distribution. SEARCHING was an instant hit, Certified Fresh at 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, and amassed over $75 million at the global box office.
Notable video game credits include the popular “Zen Mode” music for Snowman’s hit iOS games ALTO’S ADVENTURE and ALTO’S ODYSSEY, as well as Apple Arcade’s WHERE CARDS FALL.
Borrowdale studied film scoring at the University of Southern California. He currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife, son, and their dog.
